The earlier teaser for The Shallows established its “stranded surfer vs. shark” premise and not much else. This first full trailer starts off patiently and gives us a little bit more time with the lead pre-shark-attack. Then things get bitey as this rogue great white shark decides to murder everything moving.
The Shallows comes to theaters on August 12th. It boasts the tagline “Not Just Another Day at the Beach,” which is on a “The remote’s over there? Well then I guess I’ll just sit here and stare at a blank TV screen” level of lazy. I assume it was written by a studio head, because it’s the kind of work you’d only turn in if you knew you couldn’t be fired.
