Movies centering on a man or woman alone in outer space are somewhat trendy these days, given the immense box office success of Gravity and The Martian (you could even lump Interstellar into that category given the direction the story takes), and that trend continues with Approaching the Unkown. Mark Strong and Luke Wilson aren’t the box office draws that Sandra Bullock, Matt Damon and George Clooney are, however, so Approaching the Unknown might be more likely to get same level of attention and initial box office gross as the excellent, comparatively under-seen Moon. Regardless, this first trailer looks interesting, featuring Strong as an astronaut on a one-way mission to Mars, where he will presumably meet up with The Most Interesting Man in the World. Together they’ll open the first Mars bar called Mars Bar where they’ll serve Mars Bars. And Dos Equis. And precious, overpriced Breathable Atmosphere, lest their customers heads threaten to explode on some Total Recall shit.
Approaching the Unknown comes to theaters and to iTunes on June 3rd, 2016.
