The television series Orphan Black hasn’t caught on all that well here in the states–alas, clones aren’t a fraction as popular as zombies, it seems–which is a shame, because it’s a clever thriller with some outstanding acting. The new trailer for season three isn’t reaching out to embrace new fans. Truth is, in terms of selling itself to a wider audience, trailers have never been Orphan Black’s strong suit. The trailer above for season 3 is no exception; it’s exciting for current fans, but all but impenetrable for anyone unfamiliar with the series or its premise.
Here’s the basic rundown for the uninitiated: a woman witnesses the suicide of someone who looks exactly like her and tries to assume the recently deceased (and much more successful) woman’s identity. Soon she finds out that there are even more women out there, around the world, who look just like her, and that someone has them all targeted for death.
I’m reluctant to reveal much more. If you’re in the mood to binge some quality, quickly-paced “soft” sci-fi, Orphan Black is available on Amazon Prime (not to disparage Amazon’s service, but I have a sneaky suspicion that if Orphan Black was on Netflix it would have a larger viewership). Orphan Black’s season 3 premiere is April 18th; you have until then to catch up.
