You Have the Right to Remain Cool

Mortal Kombat Getting a Reboot and Hopefully a Better Theme Song

Warner Bros. wants to reboot the Mortal Kombat franchise with screenwriter Oren Uziel. Uziel’s screenplay for Shimmer Lake is considered one of the best unproduced scripts in Hollywood. I don’t care who writes the thing. But I don’t Uwe Boll anywhere near this thing. I doubt Warner Bros. would let that happen anyway. I just know it’s damn near impossible to make a good video game movie. And Mortal Kombat is my favorite fighting video game of all time, so I expect alot.

The first Mortal Kombat movie was surprisingly good. I think it was sort of the beginning of long take, heavily choreagraphed fighting sequences in American movies and they took the material pretty serious. It could’ve easily been a Power Rangers movie. I was a little disappointed that Raiden was an old white guy with gray hair instead of the exact same guy from Big Trouble in Little China, but I guess the character called for some wisdom, and some good acting. The second movie made me vomit tho. Hopefully they take the material serious again and give us a bloody treat of a movie. But it’s gonna be tough living up to the legacy that Tekken is sure to leave behind.
